Anatolia is a culture, history and depending on these, it is a heaven of tourism. Anatolia which is cradle of ancient civilizations has Ancient Greek and Roman buildings in South and West. Theatres are important structures in ancient civilizations. They can keep up present day. Theatres reflect our public’s social and cultural history. Coliseums in Italy and France, temples in Egypt and Greece, palaces in Createn show us their cultural and social character like that Aspendos which is in Antalya’s town exhibits our characters of cultural and social. For that reason, this building informs of general history.
Aspendos was built in 224 A.D. by Romans.Aspendos is the best preserved building which was built by Roman in both and all of Europe and North Africa. Although, the region is an earthquake area Aspendos theatre which has surprisingly architecture succeeded in durable.
The theatre reflects Roman architecture’s character. The part of cavea is placed in slope. Moreover, these arches was used aquaduct. The theatre has stage building which has long and narrow is the best remarkable in the theatre. This original height was preserved during the centuries. The capacity of cavea is between fifteen and twenty thousands persons. The gallery which shape is semi circle and was occured fiftynine vault is in the top of sitting area. Aspendos’ s stage building was used residential in term of Seljuk.The tiles was decorated in the style of Seljuk. I. Aleaddin Keykubat was used for palace. After the term of Seljuk, this building is unkept and in grass until the 1930s. Then, while Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was visiting the region, he provided to available building. However, thanks to the theatre was restoreted in term of Seljuk, it is succeed in durable.
Bizans, Seljuk and Otoman Empire is playing an important role on Aspendos. For that reason, Aspendos shows us both its time and from past to present time. Firstly, thanks to this building the people are interested in the arts which is very important in the past time. Because while the people don’t build fifteen thousands persons in nowadays this building was built in the term of Roman. They didn’t observe a risk. So this building which shows us both setting a good example and being a lesson has an important value in my country and all humanity. On the other hands, Aspendos theatre has a wonderful acoustic feature. In case of Aspendos was solved extremely good. The whisper in the bottom of grade was heard easily from the top of grade.
Consequently, the theatre was used a concert, a theatre and the dancing show in a term but, the other term was used a palace. In nowadays, Aspendos which was built its purpose is used the theatre, concert and the other show as well as it is used for element of tourism. This structure which is remain standing since two thousands years is preserved the same purpose in the future time.
