In time ,being aware of events that we experienced is possible by well searching our own history.Primarily, i want to mention about Anatolia. City of one thousand gods hosted numerous civilizations. This variation brought intensive knowledge which became a strong source of history.Anatolia is composed by regions which are developing in different ambiences have common features also differences according to traditions in details.The differences are the result of the variety which is based on the source; climate, topography, traditional materials,culture,beliefs and comprehension of wholeness.Hereby one of the regions which let people know about it and protect itself is Safranbolu.

Safranbolu is the district of Karabük, located at the North-west Anatolia, Rebublic of Turkey. It is a settlement which has architectural, archaelogical, historical, monumental values depends on 3000B.C. Intensivly being an Ottoman city, Safranbolu reflects us 18.,19. century traditional Turkish life.The reflection is so sucsessful because of being at the top at all subjects.Exemplarily, architectural style which is satisfying and protected .The best exaples of this style are Traditional Safranbolu Houses.

Houses, which have impress of successfuly protected cultural and social history are the symbols that keeps alive Turkish culture. According to traditions, houses are not only the shelters, they witness to all situations good or bad, happy or not. Wide family type, climate, topography, spiritual and temporal properties played role in the shape of the all 2000 traditional houses. When we look at the plans, we see the effects of ; family type on number of spaces, religious on being closed to outside, respect to social life on settling. If we talk about the architecture, well-balanced settling order, usage of different materials together, placing on the slope not blocking the other are the features which attracts the attentions.

Safranbolu is like an open-air museum , historical and architectural values adorned the city.In time, life goes on with the conscious of protection. There are models which keeps alive the culture and redounds sharing. Museum houses, community centers ,etc. attend to the same purpose. Tourism is not a purpose, it is a “tool”. Cultural heriitage is served to people all over the world by tourism,and its incomes create a source of protection.

Despite destroying then rebuilding of the “old” all over the world,today and in the future ,Safranbolu will more adopt ,being in the world heritage list and will strengthen the feature of being sampling city, by developing opportunities and increasing conscious. People who want to have a journey in the time, to feel real history, to see traditions in the future and moreover; although these the houses of Safranbolu only wants keeping their story alive eternally.
