Başlıksız (?)

“If one had but a single glance to give the world, one should gaze on Istanbul.”
Alphonse de Lamartine

The location of Byzantium(Istanbul) attracted Constantine I in 324 after a prophetic dream; This is the first known acknowledgement of Istanbul in history. From since, Istanbul has seen lot that helped to improve the importance of the city in any time, for any group of people. On 29 May 1453, Turks has come and found the opportunity to live in this city. My beloved heritage to preserve is Istanbul University, which is founded just after the conquest of Istanbul by the Turks, and yet, serving the public as if it was needed at the conquest days.
The main reason of preserving this heritage can be the invaluable importance of the history that lies down from the university. Istanbul University has 556 years of history that includes invaluable experiences, memories, inventions. It witnessed the most important and critical movements of the world and had a main role in these. Istanbul University were there when the Turks decided on the Independence war against allies, so many important speech was given there by the most famous philosophers and thinkers of the era.
Another important aspect of this heritage is that the existence of this sets of buildings is accepted as the symbol of continuity of Turkish sovereign. When a Turk think about a university, the first thing comes to minds is Istanbul University. The location is priceless, It is situated in the old peninsula of Istanbul and yet at the center of it. A majority of Istanbul’s population can easily see it in a normal day. The current situation is keeping the importance level; the students are from all over Turkey and the university has a widespread attraction from any Turkic history lovers.

It firstly, designated as a palace for the sultan but after it became architecturally invaluable university. Art that can felt in the halls is incomparable to any building, maybe because of the oldness and the tiredness coming from so many experiences.

In my opinion, as Istanbul is one of the most beautiful and intellectual city, I think we have a mission to preserve the most important buildings, or more correctly our passage from past to the future, by celebrating their existence. Istanbul University can be considered as the oldest educational place that is left from the past. The incredible importance of the building should be learned and acknowledged by not only the citizens of the city but the citizens of the world. One should stand in front of the historic gate of the university and feel the memories, then maybe the one who feel the old, can see and forecast the future. One should sit in a class in the university, then maybe the one who hear the lessons, can love and embrace the past. One should walk through the halls, then maybe the one who see the souls, can understand the need of peace and try harder to achieve it.
